1. The build at a glance
  1. Lv. 10-17: max Double StabIt stabs twice per cast and is a dagger Thief's only attack until 2nd job. Every point goes here first.
  2. Lv. 17-22: Nimble Body to 15Accuracy and avoid. Up close the avoid saves potions; after 30 the accuracy decides which monsters you can hunt.
  3. Lv. 22-30: Disorder 3, max Dark Sight, then Disorder 6Your Thief SP locks at 2nd job, so spend all of it before you advance. Keen Eyes and Lucky Seven need throwing stars; leave them at 0.
  4. Lv. 30-37: Dagger Mastery 5, Dagger Booster 1, then max Dagger MasteryOne point of Dagger Booster already gives its full attack speed, so take it at 32.
  5. Lv. 37-65: the builds splitBudget: Nimble Recovery, Savage Blow, then Steal. Pro: Savage Blow, Steal, Haste, then Dagger Booster.
  6. Lv. 65-70: the last pointsBudget finishes Haste and leaves Dagger Booster at 1. Pro finishes Dagger Booster and puts its last point in Nimble Recovery.

You get 1 SP per level as a Beginner, 1 SP at each job advancement, and 3 SP per level after that. Bandit SP can't be spent on Thief skills, and an SP Reset Scroll from the Cash Shop resets every skill except Beginner skills.

2. Budget and Pro builds

Skill points cost nothing, so both builds take the same Thief route and swap one skill at 2nd job. What sets them apart is where your mesos go: daggers, gear, scrolls and potions. Prices are what each item sells for on HubCW, so they move with the market.

BudgetSpend as little as you can
Skills
Nimble Recovery straight after Dagger Mastery: every dodge then refills 10% of your HP and MP for free, once every 30 seconds. Dagger Booster stays at 1, which already gives its full speed.
Weapon
Triangular Zamadar at 10, then a clean dagger every 10 levels up to Kandine. Hold a Stolen Fence in the other hand from level 5: it blocks about 7% of physical hits.
Gear
Wear whatever drops. Keep DEX at what your next dagger needs.
Scrolls
None. Sell the ones that drop to pay for potions.
Potions
Red Potion (2.5 HP a meso) while they keep up, then White Potion (2.0), and Blue Potion (1.0 MP a meso). MP costs about twice as much as HP, so spend MP carefully.
Hunting
Savage Blow once it passes Double Stab, and Double Stab whenever MP runs short: it does the most damage per MP of any attack you have. Pick monsters you hit every time (see Stats & daggers).
ProMoney is no object
Skills
Savage Blow straight after Dagger Mastery, then Steal and Haste. Dagger Booster gets the last points, so you rebuff every 300 seconds instead of every 100. Nimble Recovery gets 1: you're buying the potions anyway.
Weapon
The best dagger at every step, scrolled for attack, and a Nimble Wristguard from level 22: with its slots scrolled it blocks about 14% of physical hits.
Gear
LUK gear in every slot, and a Blue Sauna Robe for the body: its 10 slots take LUK scrolls (+20 if all pass), and tops and bottoms have none. Buy it already scrolled: Price Check splits sales by stat roll.
Scrolls
Attack on the dagger and gloves, LUK on the overall, cape and earrings, DEF on the shield. Every slot, see the table below.
Potions
Elixir and White Potion to refill, and Warrior Potion (+10 Attack Power, about 2,200 mesos an hour) until Steal 6 gives as much.
Hunting
Savage Blow on everything, Steal on each new pair of monsters to keep its Attack Power up, and Dagger Booster and Haste always on.

Gear, slot by slot

Where two items share a step they are the same item for men and women, or two shields with the same stats: buy the cheaper. Any earrings do for Pro: they all have 5 slots, and the LUK scrolls are what count. Women can wear the Dark Avenger from level 35 instead of the robe: the same 10 slots and 5 more LUK.

Pro scrolls

One tier in each family gives the most per slot on average without any risk to the item. Pro fills every slot with it, or buys gear where every slot already passed.

ScrollSuccessSlotsIf all passPricePer success
Dagger Attack Scroll: Intermediate 60% 7 +14 W.ATT 217,777 mesos 362,962 mesos

Earring LUK Scroll: Intermediate 60% 5 +10 LUK 99,999 mesos 166,665 mesos
Shield DEF Scroll: Intermediate 60% 7 +28 W.DEF - -

The other tiers, on a dagger: Dagger Attack Scroll: Lesser is 100% for +1, Dagger Attack Scroll: Greater 10% for +4, and Dagger Attack Scroll: Chaos 10% for +5, but 50% of its failures destroy the dagger. Try them in the scroll simulator first.

What the money buys

Each build's average cast of Double Stab or Savage Blow, whichever hits harder, in its own gear and with its own skills at that level: pure LUK, with only the DEX that gear needs. Pro counts every scroll slot as passed and Warrior Potion running; both count Steal's Attack Power once they have it, and only the bigger of the two. Misses and monster defense are left out, so treat the numbers as a comparison.

4. Thief, Lv. 10-30

You advance in Kerning City at level 10. From then to 30 you get 61 SP for six skills that would take 110 to max, and whatever you leave here at 30 stays that way. A dagger Thief has one attack, Double Stab, and two skills that only work with throwing stars, so both builds take the same route here.

LevelSkill pointsWhy
10 Double Stab 1 Advance to Thief with the Dark Lord in Kerning City. You get 1 SP now and 3 per level after that. Double Stab stabs twice with your dagger and is your attack until 2nd job.
11–16 Double Stab 1 → 19 (+3 per level)
17 Double Stab 20 · Nimble Body 2 Double Stab maxed: 2 × 160% for 16 MP.
18–21 Nimble Body 2 → 14 (+3 per level)
22 Nimble Body 15 · Disorder 2 Nimble Body maxed: +15 Accuracy and Avoidability.
23 Disorder 3 · Dark Sight 2 Disorder 3 unlocks Dark Sight. Dark Sight 1 hides you when you need a break. It costs 50 MP and slows you while hidden.
24–28 Dark Sight 2 → 17 (+3 per level)
29 Dark Sight 20 Dark Sight maxed: 30 MP to hide, and you move at full speed while hidden.
30 Disorder 6 2nd job: choose Bandit. Spend your last Thief SP first, because Bandit SP can't go into Thief skills. Disorder 6: the monster you cast it on hits for 10 less and has 2 less DEF for 15 seconds.
Why Double Stab first?Maxing it doubles a cast from 160% to 320%, and its damage per MP stays between 20 and 23 at every level, so each point is more damage for the same MP.
Keen Eyes and Lucky SevenKeen Eyes only adds range to throwing weapons, and Lucky Seven throws stars from a claw. With a dagger in your hand neither does anything, so the 26 points left after Double Stab and Nimble Body go to Disorder and Dark Sight.
The last 26 pointsDisorder 3 unlocks Dark Sight, a way to hide when you need a break, and Dark Sight 20 costs only 30 MP and no longer slows you. The 3 left over raise Disorder to 6.
Beginner skillsThree Snails 3 first for an early ranged attack, then Recovery 3 and Nimble Feet 3. All three are maxed by level 10 whatever you do.
Your first daggerDaggers need LUK and, from level 15, DEX 5 below their own level. Keep DEX there and put the rest into LUK (see Stats & daggers).
5. Bandit, Lv. 30-70

At 2nd job you get 1 SP, then 3 per level: 121 by level 70. Maxing all six Bandit skills would take 140, so 19 points stay out, and the builds disagree on where: Budget leaves them in Dagger Booster, Pro in Nimble Recovery. The current client has no 3rd job yet.

LevelSkill pointsWhy
30 Dagger Mastery 1 2nd job: choose Bandit. Spend your last Thief SP first, because Bandit SP can't go into Thief skills.
31 Dagger Mastery 4
32 Dagger Mastery 6 · Dagger Booster 1 Dagger Mastery 5 unlocks Dagger Booster. Dagger Booster 1 already gives both speed stages: about 17% more attacks. Later levels only make it last longer and cost less.

70 Budget Haste 20Pro Dagger Booster 20 · Nimble Recovery 1 Budget: Haste maxed: +30 Speed and +10 Jump for you and your party, 300 seconds.Pro: Dagger Booster maxed: 300 seconds for 10 HP and 10 MP. Nimble Recovery 1: dodging a hit has a 20% chance to restore 1% of your HP and MP, at most once every 30 seconds.
Why Dagger Mastery first? It raises the low end of every hit and adds critical rate: about 47% more damage on average when maxed, on Double Stab and Savage Blow alike. Dagger Mastery 5 also unlocks Dagger Booster.
Why Dagger Booster 1 at 32?Its first level already speeds your dagger up by two stages, about 17% more attacks. The other 19 levels only stretch it from 100 to 300 seconds and cut its cost.
Nimble Recovery or Dagger Booster? This is the one swap. Maxed, Nimble Recovery gives back 10% of your HP and MP on a dodge, once every 30 seconds, and up close you dodge often: free potions, so Budget takes it at 37-44. Pro would rather rebuff Dagger Booster less often and buys the potions.
When does Savage Blow beat Double Stab?Per cast from Savage Blow 11, when it gets its 5th hit. Per MP never: maxed, it does 80% of Double Stab's damage per MP. Budget, which pays for its MP, takes Savage Blow after Nimble Recovery; Pro takes it first.
Steal before HasteHaste 5 unlocks Steal, whose Attack Power raises every hit: about 12% more damage at Steal 30. The rest of Haste only adds speed and jump, so it waits.

7. Damage math

A stab's damage is your weapon attack times a stat term: LUK × 2 plus STR and DEX for the high roll, with the LUK part cut by your mastery for the low roll, plus Attack Power from skills and potions. Each hit rolls between the two, so mastery raises the average by raising the minimum. The comparisons below use the community's dagger formula; treat them as relative.

What Dagger Booster is worth

Other multipliers

  • LUK against STR and DEX: in the average hit a point of LUK counts 1.07× a point of STR or DEX before Dagger Mastery and 1.77× with it maxed, which is why LUK only pulls ahead at 2nd job.
  • Weapon DEF: damage × 100 ÷ (DEF + 100). Most training monsters have 0-50 DEF; Iron Hogs have 500, a sixth of your damage.
  • Level gap: monsters above your level take less, ×0.89 at 5 levels above you and ×0.71 at 9.
8. Steal: Attack Power on demand

Steal hits up to two monsters and tries to steal from each. A success stuns them for 1.5 seconds and gives you Attack Power for 60 seconds, and every monster can be stolen from only once, so cast it on fresh ones. On a busy map there is always a new pair, so the buff can stay up while you hunt.

  • Against a Warrior Potion: it gives +10 Attack Power for 10 minutes; Steal gives as much from level 6 and 3.5× as much maxed, for nothing. Pro drinks the potion only until then.
  • As an attack: 180% on each of two monsters is 360% a cast, 0.75× Double Stab's damage per MP. On a single monster it is only 180%, so use Savage Blow there and Steal for the buff.
  • What you steal: the game client has no drop tables, so what Steal takes from a monster, and what it is worth, can't be worked out here.

TipThe buff lasts 60 seconds and a success stuns both monsters, so open each pull with Steal: the stun buys time for the first Savage Blow.

9. Where to train

The monsters that give the most EXP per cast at every 5 levels. Each is up to 10 levels below you, has at least 10 on one map, and takes your attacks at least 95% of the time. Casts are how many attacks a kill takes on average after the monster's Weapon DEF, for each build in its own gear and skills, with whichever of its attacks below kills it fastest.

Ranked by EXP per cast for the Budget build. Monsters below your level are a little easier to hit than shown, and chance-based extras like Final Attack aren't counted. Spawn speed, map layout and other players change what an hour really gives, so try the top two and keep the one that feels faster. The Training Finder ranks the monsters for any level by EXP per HP.

10. Stats & daggers

You get 5 AP per level. Keep DEX at what your next dagger needs (5 below its level, from level 15) and put everything else into LUK. Daggers come in two kinds: the ones below need DEX, the ones marked STR need STR instead and can be used by Warriors too.

DEX or STR dagger?

STR and DEX count the same in the damage formula, and the STR daggers swing one stage faster: about 9% more attacks. But DEX also gives accuracy, and a Bandit who keeps only 25 DEX misses far more. The lines are a pure-LUK Bandit's accuracy with a maxed Nimble Body on each kind of dagger; the dots are what each monster from 30 to 70 takes to hit every time at its own level.

Counting misses and attack speed together, STR daggers come out ahead on 8 of the 25 monsters, and on average DEX daggers do about 10% more damage in the same time. Both builds use DEX daggers.

TipThese still dodge some hits even with DEX daggers and a maxed Nimble Body. Hunt them a few levels later, or drink a Sniper Potion (+5 accuracy).

Shields

A dagger leaves your other hand free, and every shield gives a chance to block a physical hit entirely. The chance grows with the shield's W.DEF (community formula), so Shield DEF scrolls raise it too.

11. Sources & notes
  • From the game data: skill numbers and prerequisites, monster levels and avoid, and item stats and requirements. They update when the game does.
  • From players: SP per level, the 2nd-job SP lock, and the dagger damage, critical, accuracy, attack-speed and shield-block formulas come from community testing (meowdb, and its Bandit guide for the dagger formula). It gives every dagger skill the same 2 × LUK multiplier, which is why Savage Blow and Double Stab compare by their skill numbers alone.
  • Assumed: whether Steal's Attack Power stacks with a Warrior Potion isn't confirmed; the numbers here count only the bigger one. They also assume the buff stays up while you hunt.
  • Calculated: the Savage Blow comparison, the Dagger Mastery curve, the Dagger Booster speed-up, Steal's value, the shield block chances and the dagger accuracy chart use those formulas with example stats. Misses, crits and positioning all move real results.
  • Budget and Pro builds: the gear picks are written by hand. Prices are the median HubCW sale of the last 30 days, or the median Free Market ask when nothing sold; a dash means neither. The damage figures assume 25 starting stat points, 5 AP a level, and DEX at 25 or what the dagger needs.
