1. The short answer
  1. A party of exactly 4, all Lv. 21 or higherGo to Channel 3 to 12 (the only ones with the party quest), and the leader talks to Lakelis in Kerning City.
  2. Take Proof of Companionship firstLakelis's one-time quest asks you to beat King Slime inside, so your first clear pays 1,870 EXP, 687 mesos, fame and an Intermediate earring scroll on top.
  3. Stage 1: answer Cloto with couponsEach member but the leader gets a question whose answer is a number. Kill Ligators for that many coupons and trade them for a Pass. The answers are in section 3.
  4. Stages 2 to 4: find the right 3 spots3 players hang on ropes, stand on kitten platforms, then on barrels, and the leader asks Cloto if it's right. Section 4 lists every combination to tick off.
  5. Last stage: 10 Passes and King SlimeEvery monster on the last map drops a Pass, King Slime too. The leader brings all 10 to Cloto.
  6. Stay for the bonus stageA room full of mushrooms to farm. Talk to Nella to leave: party quest maps have no portal out.
2. Before you go

Where Lakelis stands

Lakelis stands at the bottom of Kerning City, next to the hidden portal to The Swamp of Despair I. The orange dot marks her.

Map of Kerning City Lakelis
Who can goA party of exactly 4, every member Lv. 21 or higher. Any mix of classes works. Nexon names no maximum level (the old KPQ stopped at 30).
WhereChannels 3 to 12 only. Players report that several parties can be inside at once on one channel.
The leaderTalks to Lakelis and Cloto, collects every Pass and calls out the puzzle tries. Pick someone who types fast.
The other threeAnswer Cloto's quiz in stage 1 and stand where the leader says in stages 2 to 4.

Bring

  • HP and MP potions: King Slime and the Curse Eyes hit much harder than what you train on at Lv. 21. The potions guide has the cheapest ones.
  • Free slots: coupons and Passes go in your Etc tab, the reward box in Use.
  • Time: the whole run has a 30-minute limit.

Proof of Companionship

Talk to Lakelis before your first run and accept Proof of Companionship (Lv. 21+). It asks for one King Slime kill inside the party quest and can only be done once:

3. Stage 1: Cloto's coupon quiz
Map of 1st Accompaniment <1st Stage>Stage 1

Cloto asks each member except the leader a question. The answer is a number: kill Ligators until you hold exactly that many coupons, then give them to Cloto for a Pass. When the leader has a Pass from all 3 members, the leader talks to Cloto and the stage opens.

  • Ligator ×22Lv. 21 · 778 HP · 68 EXP

These Ligators are Lv. 21 with 778 HP: 3 to 4 attacks each for a Lv. 21 Budget build from the class guides.

Quiz answers

Cloto asks aboutCoupons
The level for the 1st job advancement (any class) game data10
EXP to go from level 1 to level 215
INT a Magician needs for the 1st job advancement20
The level you need to enter this party quest game data21
DEX a Bowman or Thief needs for the 1st job advancement25
AP you get from level 1 to level 625
The level for the 2nd job advancement game data30
STR a Warrior needs for the 1st job advancement35

Players have recorded these questions; Cloto words them in her own way, and new ones may turn up. Read yours carefully before you count.

ExactlyCloto takes only the exact number. Drop spare coupons before you talk to her, and help the slower members by dropping your extras next to them.

4. Stages 2–4: ropes, kittens and barrels

Each puzzle has 3 right spots, picked again every run, so there's no answer to learn: you try. 3 members take a spot each, the leader asks Cloto, and Cloto says if it's right. She never says how many are right, so every wrong try rules out just that one combination: every order needs the same number of tries, half of them on average. What you can cut is the walking.

The small "2→5" says who moves: the player on 2 goes to 5. Tick the box when Cloto says no.

Stage 2: 4 ropes

Two ropes hang from the top branch and two from the lower branches. Call the top ones 1 and 2 and the lower ones 3 and 4, left to right. 3 players each hang on a different rope (stay on it, partway up) while the leader talks to Cloto. With 4 ropes, one is always empty: at most 4 tries.

Map of 1st Accompaniment <3rd Stage>Stage 3

Stage 3: 5 kitten platforms

Each platform has a different number of kittens on it, from 1 to 5: use that as its number. They aren't in order: from left to right they go 1, 5, 2, 4, 3. 3 players each stand on a different platform. At most 10 tries.

Walking to the right answer takes 4.8 hops on average in the shortest walk and 10.0 in counting order (a hop is a move to the next platform or barrel).

Stage 4: 6 barrels

The 6 barrels at the top of the map are stacked like a pyramid and have their numbers painted on. 3 players each stand on a different barrel. At most 20 tries.

Walking to the right answer takes 9.5 hops on average in the shortest walk and 14.5 in counting order (a hop is a move to the next platform or barrel).

5. Last stage: King Slime
Map of 1st Accompaniment <Last Stage>Last stage

A tall map you fight your way down: Curse Eyes at the top, Jr. Neckis in the middle and King Slime at the bottom. Every monster here drops a Pass. The leader needs all 10, then talks to Cloto to finish the party quest.

  • Jr. Necki ×6Lv. 25 · 765 HP · 80 EXP
  • Curse Eye ×3Lv. 29 · 1,186 HP · 94 EXP
  • King Slime ×1Lv. 32 · 16,820 HP · 2,400 EXP
King Slime: Lv. 32, 16,820 HPIt gives 2,400 EXP, attacks you on sight and resists ice, fire, lightning and holy attacks, so Magicians' elemental spells do less to it. Energy Bolt and Magic Claw lose nothing.
A short fight with fourA Warrior, a Magician, a Bowman and a Thief at Lv. 25 bring it down in about 17 attacks each, well under a minute. Alone it takes them 52 to 76 attacks (section 7).
  • Players report that it calls Slimes to help when it's hurt and splits into a crowd of Slimes when it dies. You don't have to kill them to finish.
  • Players say low-accuracy characters struggle to hit the Jr. Neckis. If a member keeps missing them, let someone else take them.
  • The map gives the Jr. Neckis and Curse Eyes a 3 min spawn timer, so if a Pass gets lost, waiting may bring another.
6. Bonus stage and the way out
Map of 1st Accompaniment <Bonus>Bonus stage

After the last stage Cloto sends you to a bonus room packed with mushrooms, a short, free EXP session until its timer runs out. One of each spawn here is worth 1,296 EXP.

To leave at any point, from any stage, talk to Nella. She sends you to the exit map, and from there back to Kerning City.

7. How each class does inside

Attacks each class needs to kill one monster alone, from the class guides' Budget builds (the range covers that class's guides). The Ligators are sized up at Lv. 21, the last stage's monsters at Lv. 25, King Slime at three levels.

ClassLigatorLv. 21Jr. NeckiLv. 25Curse EyeLv. 25King SlimeLv. 21King SlimeLv. 25King SlimeLv. 30

Thief 32–3466–7258–6641–45
Party of four

  • By the guides' accuracy maths every class hits these monsters almost every time. That maths leaves out level gaps, so monsters above your level (Jr. Neckis are Lv. 25, Curse Eyes 29, King Slime 32) dodge more than it shows.
  • Below Lv. 30 everyone is still in their 1st job. Where a class shows a range, its guides spend their 1st job skill points differently.
  • The party row adds up one of each class at the guides' average and splits King Slime's HP between them. Burns, poison and Final Attack aren't counted.
8. What a run gives you

One kill of every spawn, before the EXP is shared with your party. Cloto also gives EXP for every stage you clear; we don't have those numbers yet.

Companion's Magic Box

Everyone who finishes gets a Companion's Magic Box (untradeable). Nexon's Grand Launch notes say it gives these jewel ores, in smaller amounts since 21 October, and a chance at the Lakelis Statue housing decoration:

Players also report hats, earrings, scrolls, potions, Screws and other ores from it. Nobody has published the odds.

King Slime's Squishy Shoes

Shoes any class can wear, with +1 to every stat and no stat requirement. Players report them from King Slime; the drop rate isn't known. Plenty change hands on the market, so check the price before you keep a pair.

There's also a King Slime Balloon decoration for town housing. The game data doesn't say how you get it.

9. Tips for a smooth run
  • Agree on the numbers for the ropes, platforms and barrels before stage 2, and let only the leader call the tries.
  • In stage 1, the fastest killers help the others: drop spare coupons next to whoever still needs some.
  • Coupons and Passes can be dropped for a party member even on a new account (Nexon fixed that on 22 October).
  • Say so before you go AFK: the puzzles wait for everyone.
  • Players report that dying doesn't end the run, and that three members can still finish (the leader takes the empty spot in the puzzles). With two left before the puzzles are done, start again.
  • Don't leave right after King Slime: the bonus stage is free EXP.
10. Questions

What level do you need for the Kerning City Party Quest?

Level 21 or higher, in a party of exactly 4. Nexon names no maximum level for Classic World's KPQ (the old KPQ stopped at 30).

Where do you start KPQ?

Lakelis stands at the bottom of Kerning City, next to the hidden portal to The Swamp of Despair I. Form a party of 4, go to Channel 3 to 12, and the party leader talks to her.

What are the answers to Cloto's coupon questions?

The level for the 1st job advancement (any class): 10 · EXP to go from level 1 to level 2: 15 · INT a Magician needs for the 1st job advancement: 20 · The level you need to enter this party quest: 21 · DEX a Bowman or Thief needs for the 1st job advancement: 25 · AP you get from level 1 to level 6: 25 · The level for the 2nd job advancement: 30 · STR a Warrior needs for the 1st job advancement: 35. Bring exactly that many coupons.

How do you solve the rope, platform and barrel stages?

By trying combinations. 3 players stand on 3 of the 4 ropes, 5 platforms or 6 barrels and the leader asks Cloto; there are 4, 10 and 20 ways to pick. Cloto only says right or wrong, so every order needs the same number of tries. To walk the least, move one player to the next platform or barrel each try (this guide lists that order); to read nothing, count up: 1-2-3, 1-2-4, 1-2-5…

How strong is King Slime?

Lv. 32 with 16,820 HP and 2,400 EXP. It resists ice, fire, lightning and holy attacks. A Warrior, a Magician, a Bowman and a Thief at Lv. 25 bring it down in about 17 attacks each.

What do you get from KPQ?

EXP from every stage and monster, a Companion's Magic Box for each member who finishes, and a chance at Squishy Shoes from King Slime. The first clear also completes Proof of Companionship (1,870 EXP, 687 mesos, fame and an Intermediate earring scroll).

How long does KPQ take?

The whole run has a 30-minute time limit. The puzzle stages take the longest, so agree on an order to try them in before you start.

11. Sources & notes
  • From the game data: the stage maps and what spawns on them (so the number of Passes), the monsters' stats, Lakelis's spot, Proof of Companionship and the item texts. They update when the game does. The party quest's own monsters are copies with their own stats and no database page.
  • From Nexon: Lv. 21 and up and Channels 3 to 12 (Grand Launch release notes), the box's ores and Lakelis Statue (21 October maintenance), dropping coupons and Passes on new accounts (22 October maintenance).
  • From players' guides: how each stage works, the quiz answers, the 30-minute limit, King Slime's Slimes and Squishy Shoes, the box's other items and what happens when someone dies (Metaroad, maplestory-classic.com, MapleStory Classic Wiki). The quiz answers that the game data can check are tagged.
  • Calculated: attacks to kill = HP ÷ (hits per attack × chance to hit × average damage after defense and element), from each class guide's own damage formula, gear and skill levels, the same rules as the bosses guide.
  • Not known yet: the EXP Cloto gives per stage, the bonus room's timer, the box's odds and the Squishy Shoes drop rate. Seen them? Send a screenshot to [email protected].
  • Prices are the median HubCW sale of the last 30 days, or the median Free Market ask when nothing sold; a dash means neither.
