Tamya can't read her grandmother's journal. It's written in the old fairy script. Take the Hearthkeeper's Journal to Daniel the Scholar in a map.
Completed
I brought the Hearthkeeper's Journal to Daniel the Scholar. He recognized the old script right away.
Full dialogue
My grandmother, Elda, was a hearthkeeper. Long ago, when the cave fairies lived in the deep halls, a hearthkeeper kept the fires and remembered the names of everyone who had passed on.
When the others left the deep halls, she stayed behind. I was very small. She never came back up, and no one would tell me why.
All I have is this Hearthkeeper's Journal. But it's written in the old script, and no one has taught it since we moved. I can't read a single word.
Daniel the Scholar in a map studies our old ways. Would you take it to him? It's a long way down, so please be careful.
Accept: Here it is. Please don't lose it! Daniel the Scholar is in a map, deep in the tunnels.
Decline: I understand. It's a long way down. I'll keep the journal safe until you're ready.
A journal written in the old hearthkeeper script? I haven't seen one of these in years! May I?
...This belonged to Elda? I remember the name. The hearthkeepers wrote in this script so their records would outlast them.
Most of it is a list of names: the fairies she laid to rest in the old tomb, one name for every winter. But the last pages describe the Lantern Rite.
